7:00pm - Gyro-camera Mount and Helicopter Demo
8:00pm - SOFaT general business meeting
9:00pm - Event ends
9:30pm - After event mixer (no-host bar) at Martinos Gyro-camera Mount and Helicopter Demo by SOFaT member Brim Aviation and Shawn Adams
Aerial photography may have seemed a daunting or out-of-reach addition to your production, but no longer. Come check out the gyro-stabilized camera mount and helicopters based right here and available for filming in Southern Oregon. The Tyler MiniGyro Camera Stabilization system is designed for cameras weighing up to 40lbs. It is powered by 2 KS-9 gyro stabilizers and requires no mounting of any kind, yet the weight of the camera is supported by the mount. They are working with Tyler Camera Systems in Southern California to have this device available to filmmakers in Southern Oregon. What this really means to us is that there is a Tyler MiniGyro based 100% locally and available anytime without the cost and time of shipping to get it here. And its not limited to just helicopters. The mount can be used in cars, trucks, boats, ATV, motorcycles, or even handheld, to achieve that smooth, gyro-stabilized Steadicam shot you've always wanted! About Brim Aviation:
Brim Aviation has 5 helicopters and plenty of very skilled pilots. Their helicopters range from 4 seaters to 6 or 7 seaters, including an R44 Raven II (Piston helicopter), three MD500 Turbine helicopters, and "Black Betty", an MD600N (NOTAR) (also a show helicopter), one of the smoothest and quietest helicopters, with it's 6 main rotor blades and no tail rotor. In the camera department, Brim Aviation has a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 7D available for rent, or bring your own camera. According to Shawn, it seems REDs are on the Tyler Mount more than anything. About Shawn Adams:
Shawn Adams is a DP, Camera Operator, Editor and 3D Artist. He is a licensed helicopter pilot as well as flies airplanes and autogyros (you know, James Bond, Mad Max... yeah.. one of those). He has been flying for about as long as he has been in the film business. His company is Rotor-Head, Inc, which specializes in all forms of production, from aerial photography, still photography to HD and 3D. Visit his website at http://www.rotor-head.com. Shawn has lived in Rogue Valley since 1997, with a 4 year vacation to Australia where he interned for Panavision, Sydney and learned the way of the big cameras in the late 90's. It was in Sydney where he also bought 2 different Steadicams and became Steadicam certified at Fox Studios, Sydney. However his love of flying has him in helicopters quite a bit these days. SOFaT Quarterly Business Meeting
