The Ashland Independent Film Festival is now entering its 20th season and has been honored by MovieMaker as both among the coolest festivals in the country and among those most worth the entry fee. This year, despite the pandemic AIFF has reached new heights. In January 2020, the festival opened the new AIFF Film Center in downtown Ashland, offering a micro cinema space and hub for community classes and workshops, which is poised to become a significant attraction in Ashland when Covid passes. When the Covid lockdown struck in March 2020, AIFF was only weeks from the 19th edition of the April festival. The staff undertook a remarkable pivot to an online format, spreading the festival over 24 days in May and June, screening 36 feature films and 8 curated shorts programs, and dozens of online Q&As and video messages from filmmakers.
